Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 26, 2026
At iBorder (“we,” “our,” or “us”), we respect and prioritize your personal privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding data collection, usage, and disclosure when you download, install, and use the iBorder mobile application on iOS (collectively, the “Services”).
Core Privacy Commitments
- No Sale of Personal Data: We never sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal information to data brokers or third parties.
- On-Device Proximity Calculation: Location data is evaluated locally on your device solely to calculate distance to border ports. We do not track your journeys or store your GPS history.
- Secure Purchases: All payments and subscriptions are processed by Apple Inc. through In-App Purchases; we never receive or store your payment card numbers, billing addresses, or banking details.
- Ad-Free Option: While the free version utilizes standard banner ads to support service costs, subscribers to iBorder Pro enjoy a completely ad-free experience with zero advertising trackers.
1. Information We Collect and Process
1.1 Location Data (Optional)
- Purpose: If you grant location access, iBorder uses iOS
CoreLocationstrictly while the app is in use to calculate your linear distance to border crossings and automatically sort ports by proximity. - On-Device Only: Location coordinates are processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit, record, or store your GPS coordinates on external servers.
- Control: Location permissions are optional. You can grant, alter, or revoke location access at any time via Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > iBorder.
1.2 Purchases, Subscriptions & iCloud Account Requirement
- In-App Purchases: Premium subscriptions (iBorder Pro Individual and iBorder Pro Family) are fulfilled and billed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple provides anonymous, cryptographically signed receipts to verify active entitlement status.
- iCloud Account Requirement for Shared Subscriptions & Family Sharing:
[!IMPORTANT] Active iCloud Account Required:
- Apple Family Sharing: Accessing family subscription privileges requires an active Apple ID / iCloud account with Family Sharing configured, as Apple verifies family membership via iCloud services.
- Shared Ecosystem Subscriptions: If you participate in cross-app shared subscriptions across our developer ecosystem, an active iCloud account is required on your device.
1.3 Notifications & Live Activities (Optional)
- Push Notification Tokens: If you enable crossing alerts, your Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token is registered solely to dispatch automated wait time threshold notifications and CBP synchronization updates.
- Live Activities: Lane wait times on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen are displayed through Apple’s
ActivityKit. These activities operate locally without persistent external tracking.
1.4 Technical Telemetry & Diagnostics
We collect aggregated, non-personally identifiable diagnostic telemetry through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google LLC):
- Crash Diagnostics: Stack traces, memory state, and error logs when the app encounters unexpected crashes or network parsing errors.
- Device Metadata: Device model (e.g., iPhone 15), operating system version (e.g., iOS 18), app build version, and system language.
- Feature Performance: Aggregated usage statistics (e.g., screen views, preferred crossing lanes, CBP sync latency) to maintain high availability and optimize network performance.
2. Advertising (Free Tier) & App Tracking Transparency
- Free Tier Ads: Users on the free version of iBorder may see banner and inline advertisements served via Google Mobile Ads (AdMob).
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT): In compliance with Apple’s guidelines, iBorder requests permission before any tracking identifier (IDFA) is used for personalized advertising. You may decline tracking without losing access to standard features.
- Ad-Free for Pro Subscribers: Subscribing to iBorder Pro removes all third-party advertisements and disables ad-network SDKs during your active subscription period.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
iBorder integrates with reputable third-party SDKs strictly necessary for operations:
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Inc. | App distribution, StoreKit in-app purchases, iCloud Family Sharing validation, and APNs notification delivery. | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Google LLC (Firebase) | Anonymous crash reporting (Crashlytics), remote configuration, and technical analytics. | Google Privacy Policy |
| Google LLC (AdMob) | Displays non-intrusive advertisements for free-tier users. | Google Ads Privacy |
| Google Maps SDK | Provides embedded map views and route direction visualization (when selected). | Google Maps Privacy |
4. Data Retention & Security
- Local Storage: Your selected border crossings, custom alert thresholds, lane filter preferences, and cached wait times are saved locally in your iPhone’s secure sandboxed storage. Deleting the application erases all locally stored preferences.
- Retention of Telemetry: Anonymous error logs and performance statistics collected via Firebase automatically expire in accordance with Firebase’s standard retention policies (typically 90 to 365 days).
- Security: All communications between iBorder and data servers (CBP feeds, Firebase, exchange rate sources) use encrypted Transport Layer Security (HTTPS / TLS 1.3).
5. Your Rights & Privacy Choices
- Location Permissions: Revoke or adjust location precision anytime via Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > iBorder.
- Notification Permissions: Enable or disable crossing alerts anytime via Settings > Notifications > iBorder.
- Tracking Permissions: Toggle tracking authorization at Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > iBorder.
- Subscription Management: View, modify, or cancel your auto-renewable subscription at any time through Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically revise this Privacy Policy to reflect application updates, regulatory changes, or newly introduced features. Any revisions will be published with an updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this document.
